Sinema: International Social Action Film Festival

To give you a wider eye into social issues, Sinema is taking charge with their International Social Action Film Festival. The ISAFF already has a foothold in Los Angeles, and likewise, its local version will be screening films to draw a spotlight on the human condition in today's society. Plus, there'll be other events and activities in collaboration with social organisations to support their respective causes. Let's see some action, guys!

The S:ISAFF happens from 9 September to 1 October at Sinema Old School, 11B Mount Sophia, Old School #B1-12.

Has - "Inaia"

See this guy here? He's our bro, Has, one of Singapore's main deck hands who's been actively molding nu jazz and broken beats into submission. He now comes armed with "Inaia", his prime production especially tailored with a smooth 4/4 beat, cool grooves and warm stabs. It'll make your night (and day), whether it's being spent on the dance floor, in your bedroom or on the street.

The Observatory - Dark Folke

Dark Folke is The Observatory's fourth album, with these local sound samplers once again straddling new musical horses. Recorded in Norway, the album is a fluid extension of the band's prog ambitions into starker and darker depths. Accompanying the record is a luxe picture book, with illustrations by Justin Bartlett aka Vberkvlt (whose done work for Sunn O)))). The overall effect is stunningly noir, like your worst type of nightmare soundtracked by elves playing magical harps.

Named after the Jack Russell Terrier belonging to designer, Jo Soh, the label has gotten props from industry players and press from around the world, including us here at JUICE. And we hear even Rose Byrne is into it. Besides being stocked online and other cool stockists, Hansel is now available at Blackmarket. Huzzah.

Local Sound Art

If you think Singapore's music is somewhat nothing beyond the box, we will prove you wrong. Introducing sound artist, Sonicbrat, who has been doing us proud, but quietly and humbly. Having been influenced largely by the ambient grooves of Brian Eno, Thom Yorke and Kraftwerk, the lad musician has for the past couple of years, shared a perfoming moment with Radiohead at Sziget Festival, performed in various other stints throughout Europe, and of course, was Singapore's representative to the esteemed Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) in Barcelona last year.
He will be performing at SONAR Festival in Barcelona (June 18-20) this year at an arena curated by RBMA so if you're in Spain this summer, please wave a national flag and be proud.
