By Invite Only – The Higher Being exhibition/collection

by JUICE on Wednesday, 14th September 2011

It’s been two years since By Invite Only’s conception, and already the local jewellery label is commanding a commendable fan base. It’s not hard to see why though, with its simple designs with a light luxe touch which recently took on a more organic approach with crystals on heavy feature rotation. Celebrating its two years is By Invite Only’s first mini exhibition, titled The Higher Being, with an accompanying collection with precious metal and precious stone pairings with only less than ten pieces produced per design. Nice!

The Higher Being collection will debut exclusively next month at A Curious Teepee, SCAPE, #02-24. Wanna attend the opening of the exhibition on 6 October? Email your interest to info@byinviteonly.info

Eastpak Krisvanassche

by JUICE on Tuesday, 30th August 2011

Eastpak has already hooked up with the likes of Raf Simons, Christopher Shannon and Rick Owens for collaborative collections, and this season, the bag-maker is turning its face to Kris Van Assche (that’s Dior Homme’s Artistic Director to you) for company. And the Belgium designer complies with a range of carry-alls that seamlessly merge his taste for luxe sophistication with that of Eastpak’s own drag-and-drop functionality. Have your pick from seven styles (from backpacks to oversized shoulder bags) in three combinations of materials and muted colours – all echoing KVA’s own supple and structured signatures.

Available at Robinsons Centrepoint, Tangs Orchard and VivoCity.

Alphabet bags

by JUICE on Monday, 29th August 2011

Tote bags nowadays are a dime a dozen (or even free), but we’d still gladly fork out money for a quality bag. Add typography to this equation and you’ll get this family of Alphabet bags ranging from totes to roomy travel pouches – a very stylish understatement, we think!

Available at Rockstar by Soon Lee, Orchard Cineleisure, #03-08.

Dr. Martens Autumn/Winter ’11

by JUICE on Monday, 29th August 2011

Like all first loves, your first pair of Dr. Martens will stay with you as long as you’d like it to. For one, it’s built from the kind of leather that’s tough, durable and ready to weather your most extreme hi-jinks. And for another, these shoes are such an expression of individual style and identity, and well, those things never leave you. So it’s no real surprise that Dr. Martens has made it past the 50-year mark with its originality and functionality still intact. Those virgin experiences will be duly celebrated in the Doc’s all-new campaign, fittingly dubbed First and Forever. It launches this season and as with all things Dr. Martens, is proudly Made in England. The campaign comes fronted by Agyness Deyn and Ash Stymest in all their mod regalia, on a spontaneous journey through the most British of landscapes, as shot by Gavin Watson. It’s an eloquent tribute to those timeless First moments, as much a reminder that where there’s a First, there’s also Forever.

And because good things just last and last, Dr. Martens’ Modern Classics range has only gone on from strength to strength over the seasons. And no different, this Autumn/Winter brings a new spring in your 8-Eyed or 3-Eyed step. First up, the Doc digs deep into its archive and comes back with its Paisley print. Applied to the Jeffrey 8-Eye boot and Octavius 4-Eye shoe in colourways of cherry red/blue and beige/brown, the print is a bold and pretty exotic option that’s ably complemented by a premium sock emboss and a fine heel loop. And for those who walk on the wild side, Dr. Martens has the Topos Hair-On to offer. These redefined 1460s and 1461s come dressed in genuine and premium hair-on leather with contrasting black-and-white animal prints, as well as a rugged groove-less sole unit. Note that these signature animal spots have been in Dr. Martens’ vocabulary for years and judging from its vibrant restoration on these babies, none of its rebellious or youthful potency has waned.

Dr. Martens stores can be found at Wheelock Place, #02-17, T: 6737 6278, and Orchard Central, #03-05, T: 6884 7578. The two new styles retail exclusively at Front Row, Raffles Hotel Arcade, #02-09, T: 6224 5501.

Gap 1969 Fall ’11

by JUICE on Sunday, 28th August 2011

Last Fall, we saw Gap fly its 1969 collection high and proud with a variety of cuts to fit all of us nicely and with unique bling dotting them to boot. This time round, two years later after the launch of Gap 1969, expect no less from Gap – we didn’t, and they are back with a bigger and better apparel line up extended from its 1969 line. We’ll never say no to affordable yet quality denim and its wearable offshoots.

As always, you’re getting your money’s worth with the new season of Gap 1969 – it’s no secret that their fabrics and cuts are of premium stock, except at a not-so-premium price. With that out of the way, be prepared for their jeanswear-meet-sportswear Fall theme, a bountiful spread that thinks beyond the five-pocket blue jean and into other denominations of denim. Ladies, prepare to lay your hands on Gap 1969’s signature Legging Jean (or more affectionately known as Jeggings) in new fabrics such as the Gummy Legging in black, and tailored dress shirts to go with your pair of denim bottoms. For the menswear collection, it’s one big denim country out there with the Super Skinny Clean in grey and the Slouchy Slim Rocker in black (naturally). But that’s not all, you guys. The smart people at Gap 1969 have also included tops in their Fall collection that would naturally pair well with their jeans, basically getting your wardrobe sorted. Hallejujah!

Gap is located at Centre Point, #02-13, Wisma Atria, #01-18/23, VivoCity #01-129/131 and Suntec City #01-009/019.
