Get your kicks at the Onitsuka Tiger Laneway Playground

Aside from show-stopping acts, mouthwatering food and a free-and-easy atmosphere that transports attendees from the busy city life to the frondescent surroundings of Gardens by the Bay, Laneway Festival has long been a home for fashion – from bohemian looks that call upon comparisons with Woodstock 1969 to outlandish clashes of colour that wouldn’t look out of place at an underground rave. Over the years, Onitsuka Tiger has fortified its place within the Laneway story through larger-than-life installations and fringe activities that marry music and mode, and this year it’s raising the stakes with the Onitsuka Tiger Laneway Playground to bring out the inner child in festivalgoers amid the excitement.

Embodying the playful experience and environment of the annual indie festival, the Japanese fashion and lifestyle brand’s 100-square-metre playground calls on guests to stow away their smartphones and throw back to childhood games like hopscotch, spin the wheel, and a memory test that’ll see winners scoring limited edition items, while the installation’s playground structures are designed to form the Onitsuka Tiger name. When indulging in simpler forms of fun, festivalgoers can charge their smartphones and devices at the playground’s mobile charging stations, while also taking in a sweeping view of the action at the main stages.

Laneway artists are no more immune from the fun, with Japanese experimental pop trio Wednesday Campanella’s KOM_I taking a break from her animated frontwoman duties to kick back and hang out with fans for a special meet-and-greet. Thankfully, the playground’s charging stations will mean that your smartphone has plenty of juice for a photographic keepsake.

The Onitsuka Tiger Laneway Playground appears at St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival 2017, happening on January 21 at The Meadow, Gardens by the Bay. For tickets and more info, visit
