Scott Sternberg’s muse continues to lie in the obscure cul-de-sacs of pop and cultural consciousness. For Band of Outsiders’ S/S 10 collection, he’s taking nautical cues from Jacques Cousteau for a preppy take on California living (as in: the beach), with a loose and playful collection of gear to match. So while the girls pose as sassy Malibu girls (in the label’s Boy diffusion line), the guys fix up within a preppy frame of blazers, plaid shirts, cuffed shorts, creased button-downs and boat shoes. New twists also come in the form of dip-dyed techniques, piping seams and materials like washed suede. Of course, all of it still bears the hallmarks of Scott’s distinctive design nous, as much as a fresh and effortless cool.
