Mr Hare
by JUICE on Tuesday, 9th March 2010
Because shoes doth make a man, Mr Hare has been immersing his good self in the art and sole that doth make a shoe. He’s emerged with a blog, on which he delivers his verdict on footwear from Chuck Taylors to Visvim, and Mr Hare, the label that prides itself on quality, handmade craft and informed design in Oxfords, Derbys and the like. It’s the kind of sartorial grace and elegance that began (and finds inspiration) in Marvin Gaye and Phil Spector, and now lands right on your pedal. So wear them well.
Get Mr Hare at Surrender, 119 Devonshire Road, Level 2.
Ben Sherman S/S ‘10
by JUICE on Monday, 8th March 2010
The rock royalty that is Ben Sherman has got more mod threads up its sleeve for Spring/Summer. Feast your eyes on three individual drops that take their inspiration from the mod-father triumvirate: Paul Weller sparks off some Eton-styled prep, The Who’s early, trashy mod days get captured in some well-worn, vintage looks, and the Small Faces’ casual, sporty vibe is pinned down with geek chic.
Ben Sherman is located at Paragon, #03-48 and VivoCity, #01-24.

L’Oreal’s Style vs Style
by JUICE on Wednesday, 3rd March 2010
As you know, L’Oréal Paris and its new Studio Line range have been doing good things for hair everywhere - ensuring your locks are in order, sans the fuss or the frizz. It’s totally stylin’. And just to finesse that point, L’Oréal’s bringing on Style vs Style, an interactive dance-off which pits two prevailing fashion styles against each other. There’s Street, an energetic krump routine, and Slick, a smooth and rhythmic voguing - but only one gets to walk off the champion later this month. The winner will be determined via a public online voting system, with voters also standing a chance to win a $100 L’Oréal hamper, as well as some lomo cameras for your trigger-happy needs.
To cast a vote for your favourite style, simply log on to www.style-vs-style.com, or join the discussion on their Facebook fanpage at www.facebook.com/style.vs.style.

Profile: Max Tan

IM-PRESS-IVE
Max Tan’s eponymous label is one razor sharp line that provides an option for women who dare to break out of conformity. This Spring/Summer, Max is unveiling the stunning Pressed, a new collection that toys and reinvents the look of a classic white shirt. By playing with odd silhouettes and shapes, and introducing new patterns, Max is not only offering some unique tailoring through a bunch of white fabric, but also proving himself to be one step ahead of most designers.
Tell us more about the idea behind your label.
I would describe the spirit of my label as androgyny meets soft geometry. My label emphasises extremely simple ideas. For instance, this Spring/Summer, I asked myself how many ways can I re-imagine a white shirt? The notion of expanding on simple ideas stretches out to the construction of my clothes – e.g. square caftans reinterpreted as shirt dresses.
Care to walk us through the design process for Pressed?
I’ve always been a shirt kind of person but have gotten to a point where I’m so tired of seeing the same cuts and shirt designs. At the same time, I find a woman in a men’s shirt very sexy. With these two ideas, I then moved on to designing, ripping a classic white shirt apart, keeping important details and discarding the unnecessary. I’ve always like the idea of blurring the gender divide.
So who is this collection for?
It is definitely for a shirt lover, or someone who hates wearing classically tailored shirts. I would think these two groups of people would expect unusual twists to this wardrobe staple. The label has always been for the non-conformist, so this is definitely for someone who understands fashion and is looking for a little bit of an edge. But most importantly, she (or he) is also someone who understands cut and quality.
Check out this feature in the March issue of JUICE, now out at these spots.
The collection is available at Eggthree at 33 Erskine Road, #01-10/11/12, Mandarin Gallery, #04-26, The Cathay, #01-04, and Blackmarket, 19 Jalan Pisang.
Diesel’s Stupid S/S ‘10
by JUICE on Sunday, 28th February 2010
What could be smarter than being really stupid… like Diesel. For Spring/Summer, the label casts aside its clever, straight-edged shackles to fully love and embrace its stupid side, unleashing all things inventive, passionate and downright silly. And why not – it’s just the thing for successful living. All that finds expression in a zany Be Stupid campaign, shot by photogs Kristin Vicari, Melodie McDaniel and Chris Buck around California with a liberal amount of grit and well, stupidity.

And as a web exclusive, we managed a sneak peek behind the scenes of the Stupid campaign shoot. Check and see how it all went down -
Diesel is located at Paragon, #02-17, and Forum The Shopping Mall, #01-24.
