The White Rabbit 1st Anniversary feat. Darshan Jesrani (Metro Area)

Metro Area is the brainchild of Darshan Jesrani and Morgan Geist. Together, these deck vets are bringing back the old skooled soul of club classics, as well as the minimalism of modern dance forms. This weekend, half of Metro Area, namely Darshan Jesrani, will be headed into town to tear up The White Rabbit's decks. Things like r&b, disco and boogie will be on the menu, and since it's the Rabbit's first-ever birthday, so will cake, candles and cocktails. Come make nice.

The White Rabbit 1st Anniversary Feat. Darshan Jesrani will take place on 1 August at The White Rabbit.

Arctic Monkeys - Humbug

Since we last heard from these boys, they've grown up nicely and stopped cutting their hair, while keeping the fine company of one Josh Homme. Yup, the Queens Of The Stone Age frontman loves them Monkeys enough to have half-produced their third album, Humbug (the other half is produced by familiar face, James Ford). Surely some hard rock potential is bound to be fulfilled here. Just have a gander at their first single "Crying Lightning" and prep yourself for something along those lines.

Humbug hits the stores around 24 August.

The Fiery Furnaces - "Charmaine Champagne"

The Friedberger siblings' latest idiosyncratic statement, I'm Going Away, saw them chirpily proffer more of their quirky pop - now relatively stripped back, but no less breezy and catchy. It's an effect they love so much that they're both recording separate cover/tribute versions of/to that album. What? Yes. For something equally arty, watch their Phillip Niemeyer-directed, Mike Reddy and Hannah Cole-illustrated video for sexy new tune "Charmaine Champagne".

VUtopia With Verbal (Teriyaki Boyz)

Because you still crave the rave, Verbal is heading down from Tokyo to show you a very good one. The guy's better known as an integral part of Teriyaki Boyz, for which he's been loved by people like Kanye and Pharrell. But as you can tell from his eyewear, Verbal's also pretty partial to all that's nu in rave and electro. And he'll be giving you some of that with a solo DJ set for tomorrow's VUtopia, Velvet Underground's new sexy night. It will be neon bright so come in your best shutter shades.

VUtopia with Verbal happens on 30 July at Velvet Underground.

The Big Pink

Straight up from London's fuzzy underground comes The Big Pink, two English dudes with a shared love for My Bloody Valentine, Jesus & Mary Chain and other things like that. Their sound naturally recalls that same woozy and distorted dream pop, channelled through their dark hearts to emerge as a big and bewitching narcotic. See how they do it on "Velvet".

Look out for their debut, A Brief History Of Love, in September.

JUICE August: Peter Doherty

In your next JUICE, Peter Doherty tells us:
"You don’t have to be a musician to have a good old knees-up. What was it someone said to me the other day? This girl I was trying to talk to, she said to me, 'Oh, my daddy was the greatest musician there never was.' I said, 'What do you mean?' She said, 'He was a hardcore junkie and he just let the drugs get the better of him and he never fulfilled his potential. But man, he was the best.' And I’m thinking, 'Well...'"

The White Stripes - Under Great White Northern Lights

After bringing us the bright lights of Blackpool, The White Stripes have now gone over to the other side of the pond to light up and film their journey across the Great White North. As part of their Icky Thump tour package, the Canadian trek saw the duo play in every province, on top of highlights like their surprise gigs on a bus and in a bowling alley, as well as their one-note show (the note was F) and 10th anniversary concert. Expect all that, plus some backstage FUN, on this Emmett Malloy-directed doc, which will more than likely deliver the goods.

The film hits the Toronto Film Festival in September. If you can't be there, cross your fingers for a DVD release. See more teasers.

The Observatory - Dark Folke

Dark Folke is The Observatory's fourth album, with these local sound samplers once again straddling new musical horses. Recorded in Norway, the album is a fluid extension of the band's prog ambitions into starker and darker depths. Accompanying the record is a luxe picture book, with illustrations by Justin Bartlett aka Vberkvlt (whose done work for Sunn O)))). The overall effect is stunningly noir, like your worst type of nightmare soundtracked by elves playing magical harps.

It's not the most adventurous of outings, but all the better to showcase frontwoman Shingai Shoniwa's unparalleled set of pipes. Rock Candy

To celebrate a decade of Coachella, the most indie-fashionable thing to take place in the LA desert, the NY Times recently gathered a couple of indie darlings, stuck them in expensive bohemian gear and got Sebastian Kim to capture them on film. The results are a lush, monochrome spread of people like The Kills, No Age, Lykke Li, Vivian Girls, White Lies, Beirut and Late Of The Pier lolling about the desert looking their most elegant/wasted.

Vivian Girls - Everything Goes Wrong

One half '60s girl group and the other half punk, Vivian Girls make a sweet lo-fi garage pop sound about all things terribly teenage. It's an equation that's worked on their eponymous debut, charming the pants of anyone who's ever been young. And they're doing more of it on their sophomore, Everything Goes Wrong. "When I'm Gone" is already getting an airing, showcasing a harder and fuzzier edge, the girls' noise-laden harmonics bordering on divine. This is one beat that's definitely happening.

Everything Goes Wrong is due for an August release.

Priceless

Priceless is Antony Price's exclusive range for Topman, and now in its second season, resumes the man's sharp and tailored vision. FYI, Antony got a headstart in the '70s art directing Roxy Music's record sleeves, before moving into the '80s with his louche and dramatic glam wear, as seen on the likes of Duran Duran and David Bowie. And it's that same quality that defines his Priceless S/S '09 collection - check it for fitted and fab tees, waistcoats, jackets and trousers.

The Dead Weather - Horehound

Of all of Jack White's side projects, The Dead Weather has the best swagger . It's also got the sickest names in the biz, from Alison Mosshart (The Kills) to Dean Fertita (Queens Of The Stone Age, The Raconteurs) to Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs). Nice scowls, guys! Together, these kids are resurrecting blues straight out of the swamp, with enough grind and grit to put the dirt back on your bumper. Look into their debut, Horehound, for reference.

Also look at their latest video for "Treat Me Like Your Mother", directed by Jonathan Glazer (who's helmed vids for Radiohead and Jamiroquai), which is all kinds of splendid - even the bullet holes.
