JUICE July

This month: Our island's hippest and savviest lady Tracy Phillips fronts our stuff. We peep into A-trak's record bag, try on Datarock's tracksuits for size, and dig into Florence & The Machine. Then, we get attacked by tech in discovering what kind of gadgets local musicians and DJs are loving in our Technologic feature. And since no one should be naked, we string together Nikicio and Minimarket for your monthly dose of style. We also represent Morrissey as a pie chart, which was fun.

Pick up your free copy of JUICE at any of these spots. It's good for you.

La Roux

It's finally here: La Roux's sizzling hot debut has just dropped so get cued in. La Roux is Elly (with the hair) and Ben (producer/composer), and their music unabashedly recalls the big bleep of '80s synth-pop. That sound may be all kinds of hyped up right now, but in La Roux's hands, it finds a new warmth and class. In any case, that haircut had to come from somewhere, eh?

Also check her sweet acoustic rendition of "Bulletproof" at last weekend's Glastonbury Festival.

La Roux's self-titled debut is now out everywhere.

Craze & Klever @ Home Club

Yeah, yeah, y'all. The unholy duo of Craze & Klever is set to hit the Home Club decks this Saturday (27 June). FYI: Craze has been a three-time DMC champ and Kanye West tour DJ, while Klever is just mean with the beats. Together, C and K will be dropping a super-sized mix of hip hop, electro, drum & bass, rock, rap, ghetto tech and nu rave. It takes a whole lot of creativity to hold all that together but hey, this is Craze & Klever you're talkin' about. Be there, kids.

Home Club has 3 pairs of tickets to this event to spread around. If you'd like to score a pair, write in to grabs@juice.com.sg with your name, IC and contact numbers by 25 June. Yeah.

Useless

Backed by Shinichi Osawa (who plays star guitar), Useless is a fashion label that emphasises the marriage of Japanese and European styles in its clean and classic cuts. Shirts come in an array of checks and plaids, while tees come complete with stark slogans. It's a statement in understatement, and yes, Shinichi won't be caught dead without it.

Useless is stocked at Surrender, 119 Devonshire Road, L2.

Jemina Pearl

As you might have heard, Be Your Own Pet is no more (RIP), but its frontispiece, the irrepressible Jemina Pearl, has taken things into her own hands with a brand spanking new solo project. With John Eatherly (also BYOP), she's re-emerged with a couple of stunning live shows and now, three mint tracks, that are a little garage, a little melodic and a little Karen O. And hell, if it's good enough for Thurston Moore, it's good enough for you too.
